What Is Melia Dubia?




Malabar neem whose scientific name is "melia dubia" is a tropical plant. 

The blossom colour is white and has a sweet smell. Malabar neem ( Melia dubia) is a tropical deciduous tree that grows up to 20m in height. 

the tree is one of the fast-growing species under irrigated conditions. 

It can be harvested early i.e. within four years for plywood production or for the paper industry. Melia dubia is a tree in the family of meliaceae. 

it is distributed all throughout India the Malay peninsula and tropical asia. it is present in moist deciduous, evergreen and semi-evergreen forests. it leaves fall from February to May, flowers from January to march and fruits from November to February. 

the tree will grow erect with a single trunk up to 3m height or more without branching when pruning side shoots or nipping the nodal buds is done. 

the species is in high demand by the plywood industries. the wood is used as dual purposes which have medicinal value and is also used for fodder. it plays a vital role in the multi-farming of sheep, goats and dairy farming.  

melia dubia has tested positive for pulp pulpwood and recorded a pulp yield of 50.3%. 

Melia dubia grows easily from seed. just put your Melia dubia seeds in a pot with a very good quality potting mix, and keep that pot moist and warm. melia dubia seeds should germinate within one to four weeks.
